Donkey Kong Country 2 Review

Hi guys here is a Donkey Kong Country 2 review – thanks once again to Mr Julian Kay for lending me it.

Donkey Kong Country 2 GBA

Console: GBA
A game were you play as Donkey Kong?! Actually, you’re trying to rescue him – yeah…
So who are you? You play as Diddy Kong and his girlfriend(?) Dixie Kong

Donkey Kong Country 2 is a very self-aware Side Scroller. It begins with Donkey Kong being kidnapped by the evil dude and the characters being all “this story is lame” and “it better not involve side scrolling levels and jumping onto platforms…”

Yep, it is exactly that kind of game.

Bananas are to be expected

You primarily play as Diddy Kong, but if you get hit by an enemy, you switch to Dixie Kong. Their gameplay mechanics are essentially the same I believe she has the ability to glide through the air when jumping.

To be honest, this game has many things typical to a game like “Super Mario Bros“:

  • Side-Scrolling Levels
  • Collectables (Bananas) gain extra lives
  • Break open boxes to get rewards
  • Jump on enemies to kill them
  • Some things that make this game a little different:

  • Weird 3D that seems to be exclusive to some GBA games
  • Occasional animals you can ride
  • Pixel Perfect Jumps in the 2nd world! WTF
  • Mini Games
  • To be honest, it wasn’t different enough to make it that interesting – and I couldn’t get past what was essentially world 2-1 because of a really difficult jump! What the hell game! You made me feels like a moron!

The jump is on this level! HOORAY

I played this game on the Super Nintendo I believe when I was 8 or 9. I thought it was a decent sequel and the character swapping reminded me of Sonic and Tails. I beat the first one of this series but failed to complete the second and third. I have to say that the third one was the best installment of the series. I liked it even better than the 3d Nintendo 64 version.

Ah, character swapping does make me happy :) Sonic and Tails were the classics! I played a bit of Donkey Kong 64 but really sucked at it! Diddy Kong Racing all the way!
